The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University is a large academic and research department in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. We currently have twenty faculty members, eighty graduate students, over seventy full-time researchers and postdoctoral fellows, and outstanding and dedicated support staff.

Professor Christine Chiu’s research group, in the Department of Atmospheric Science, at Colorado State University (CSU) is pursuing research activities related to 1) the development of advanced retrieval methods for clouds, precipitation and aerosols, using a combination of radar, lidar, and radiometer from both surface- and space-based platforms; 2) three-dimensional radiative transfer and 3) cloud-aerosol-radiation interactions.

Research

  • Extend existing synergistic retrieval methods for cloud and precipitation, such as drizzle, pristine ice, snow aggregates and rimed particles.
  • Perform research for understanding cloud processes, with focuses that can be drizzle initiation and formation in marine boundary layer clouds, or secondary ice productions and riming in mixed phase clouds.
  • Work as part of a team to deliver products to operational processing systems in a timely manner.

Presentation of Research Results

  • Publish results in the refereed literature.
  • Present these results at scientific meetings including the Atmospheric System Research (ASR) Science Team meetings and national/international conferences.
  • Participate in group discussions and provide insight to graduate students

Requirements

Candidates must have the following qualifications for this Postdoctoral Fellowship at Colorado State University

  • Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science, physics, meteorology, or closely related field.
  • Research experience in cloud and precipitation remote sensing, including active and/or passive sensors.
  • Experience working with radiative transfer.
