Details

Postdoctoral Fellowship at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States of America. This postdoctoral fellowship is available at the Department of Pharmacology within Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Valvezan at the Rutgers University Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine.

The Valvezan Lab

The Valvezan Lab studies the complex interplay between signaling pathways and metabolic networks in cell growth and cancer, with emphasis on exploiting metabolic vulnerabilities to develop new therapeutic approaches. Many projects are centered on the master metabolic regulator Mechanistic Target of Rapamycin Complex 1 (mTORC1), which is active in the majority of human cancers across nearly all lineages to promote rapid, uncontrolled cell growth.

Position Summary

The postdoctoral fellow will work at the interface of basic and translational science, combining genetic, pharmacological, and molecular biology/biochemistry approaches with the latest metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis, and expression profiling assays in cultured cells and mouse tumor models to gain a comprehensive understanding of how signaling pathways remodel cellular metabolism and how to leverage these insights for therapeutic benefit.

Key Functions

The candidate on this Postdoctoral Fellowship at Rutgers University will have the following role

  • Carry out an independent research project studying signaling and/or metabolism in cell growth and center.
  • Keep detailed records of procedures and experiments. Compile data and present findings.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication, and contribute to the preparation of research grant and fellowship applications.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Rutger regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have doctoral qualifications in cell/molecular biology. However, Ph.D. with MD preferred.
  • All degrees are eligible except ABD status.
  • Experience with mouse tumor models is desirable.
