Applications are open for Postdoctoral Fellowship at Texas Christian University in Texas, United States of America. This position is a full-time, one-year appointment and is intended to specifically provide services to the University’s student-athletes. The purpose of this fellowship is to provide advanced training in counseling and sports psychology for those who have completed a psychology internship in a college or university counseling center or a similar agency.

The counseling sport psychology fellow will work under the supervision of a licensed psychologist in the Counseling and Mental Health Center as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor/Sports Psychology Consultant. The postdoctoral fellow will be considered a staff member of the Counseling and Mental Health Center, but spend almost the entirety of their time at the Athletic Department.

Job Functions

Candidate on this Postdoctoral Fellowship at Texas Christian University  will do the following duties

  • Provides individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, performance enhancement, consultations, and group therapy for student-athletes.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary care meetings.
  • Assists with programming and supervising work with teams.
  • Collaborates care with the Sports Medicine Department.
  • Observes the practices of other professionals.
  • Provides after-hours crisis response.
  • May travel with specific teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology.
  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of university counseling centers, sport psychology, and/or sport and academic preparation as it relates to sports psychology.
  • Skill in interpersonal, oral, and written communication and also organizational skills.
  • Ability to responsibly work independently and as part of a team as well as ability to seek out and be open to feedback. Similarly, ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to collaborate with other departments.
  • Ability to commit to evidence-based, culturally responsive treatment. Furthermore, ability to follow through on commitments and maintain excellent boundaries.
