Job Summary

The primary duties and responsibilities of the candidate on this Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Arkansas include working closely with Drs. Nicholas P. Greene and Tyrone A. Washington in overseeing the successful completion of research projects as outlined in NIAMS research grant 1R01AR075794-01. The position will be performing research animal experiments with multiple models of cancer-cachexia and gene manipulation using both transgenic and AAV procedures: tissue sample analysis including, but not limited to, mitochondrial respiration and ROS emission, Western blotting, RT-PCR, muscle protein fractional synthesis rates by deuterium oxide label, and histology; performing tissue culture experiments and maintenance of required cell lines; preparation and submission of research manuscripts; aid in the writing of and write external research and fellowship grant applications; dissemination of findings at relevant seminars/conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A doctoral qualification in Exercise Science or another related field by start date from an accredited institution of higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of refereed publications and presentations.
  • Experience working with laboratory animals.
  • Expertise with molecular biology techniques which may include but not limited to: Western blot, PCR, RT-PCR, cell culture and transfection, mass spectrometry, mitochondrial respiration.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well in a multi-PI, multi-trainee environment as part of a team.
