Postdoctoral Fellowship in East Asia, Asian Cinema or Media Studies at the University of Idaho College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences. The Idaho Asia Institute and the School of Journalism and Mass Media at the University of Idaho invite applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Asian Cinema or Media Studies with research interests that include East Asia to begin on a negotiated start date between September 1, 2021 to January 12, 2022. Fellows will pursue their own research, teach two undergraduate courses per annum (as determined by the needs of the School and the Institute), and assist with the Institute’s administrative and outreach functions.

The Idaho Asia Institute is a multidisciplinary teaching and research center at the University of Idaho which seeks to increase understanding of and engagement with the many nations and cultures of Asia, for the benefit of U of I faculty, staff and students, and for all Idahoans. The School of Journalism and Mass Media is Idaho’s only accredited program for the study of journalism, mass communication and related fields. The school offers bachelor’s degrees in five fields: advertising, broadcasting and digital media, film and television studies, journalism and public relations. (https://www.uidaho.edu/class/jamm)

Position Responsibilities

Candidate on this Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Idaho will do the following dutis

  • Teaching: Teach two undergraduate courses per annum.
  • Research: Engage in scholarly activity related to the long-term research programs and work in an interdisciplinary/collaborative environment.
  • Service & Outreach: Assist with the Idaho Asia Institute’s administrative and outreach functions.

Qualifications

  • Research focus on Asian Cinema or Media Studies
  • Ph.D. in an appropriate field required by the start of the position
  • Research interest and focus that includes East Asian Cinema or Media Studies preferred.
  • Similarly, prior experience teaching and mentoring students from diverse cultural backgrounds preferred.
  • Furthermore, experience teaching introductory classes at the college level, such as Film History & Aesthetics, Global Film Styles, Media & Society, Multimedia Storytelling or Media preferred.
