The Basque Center of Applied Mathematics calls application for Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Mathematics in Spain. The researcher will work on a Spanish Ministry funded research project MACROPISTAS – MAnufacturing of CuRved Objects via Path-desIgn of cuSTom-shAped toolS, that deals with the manufacturing of complex curved objects.

Research Areas

Research Ares Possible research topics include, but are not limited to path planning algorithms for 5-axis computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining and contact-based inspection, free-form surface rationalization, and tool shape design and optimization. Previous experience in geometric modeling projects is particularly welcome.

This BCAM Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Mathematics offers

  • The gross annual salary of the Postdoctoral Fellowship will be 28,000 – 32,000€.
  • There is a moving allowance for those researchers that come from a research institution outside the Basque Country up to EUR 2.000 gross.
  • Free access to the Public Health System in Spain is available to all employees.

Qualifications 

  • Promising young researchers.
  • Applicants must have their Ph.D. completed before 31.08.2020.
  • Ph.D. degree in mathematics, computer science, mechanical engineering, or related area.

Requirements

  • Ability to effectively communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different backgrounds.
  • Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form.
  • Skilled in one of the following programming languages: C, C++, C#, Python.
  • High level of spoken and written English.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in manufacturing technologies such as machining.
  • Skilled in CAM software.

Conditions

It is the candidates’ responsibility income declaration at the Bizkaia Treasury Agency. This position is for 1+1 years (the second-year contract is conditioned by a positive performance evaluation of the first year).

The Basque Center of Applied Mathematics (BCAM) is a research center on applied mathematics, created with the support of the Basque Government and the University of the Basque Country. The BCAM headquarters are in Alda. Mazarredo, 14 in Bilbao, the capital of the province of Biscay in the Basque Country of northern Spain.
