Details

The University of California Irvine calls application for Postdoctoral Scholar position in Cosmology/Extragalactic Data Analysis. The initial appointment will be for two years, with up to a total of five years contingent on successful performance and continued availability of funds for SPHEREx. Salary will be determined based on experience and the position also includes significant research and travel funds.

Job Summary

Basically, the postdoctoral fellow will work in Prof Asantha Cooray’s group on topics related to cosmology and large-scale structure, data analysis of topics in large-scale structure focusing on the infrared background, infrared background fluctuation and anisotropy power spectrum measurements with existing and future datasets, development of tools for intensity mapping of spectral lines at optical and infrared wavelength, and multi-band cross-correlation studies.

An extensive collaboration with experimental teams based at Caltech/JPL and RIT is expected. Furthermore, the fellow will join CIBER and SPHEREx collaborations. SPHEREx is currently scheduled to be launched in April 2024; and the UCI group is leading the galaxy formation science objectives with SPHEREx deep field maps. Substantial involvement in the SPHEREx data analysis pipeline will retain SPHEREx membership rights at the end of the position.
