Applications are open for Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at Tulane University in the United States. The Counseling Center Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow (Postdoc) is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. This Postdoc position resides within the Counseling Center Department and reports to a therapist team leader. The individual in this position is responsible for delivering clinical services and participating in community engagement activities.

As a member of a Center therapist team, the Postdoc provides student mental health services, including urgent walk-in assessments, consultations, individual psychotherapy, group therapy and workshops. The Postdoc also participates in designing and delivering outreach programs to students, as well as developing materials and presentations on topics pertinent to various University constituencies. Activities such as data collection and analysis, as well as program coordination, may also be pursued at times. The Postdoc participates regularly in Campus Health, therapist team, and Center staff meetings and training.

Qualifications

Candidates for this Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at Tulane University must have

  • Successful completion of an APA-accredited internship by the start of the fellowship, in addition to two years providing direct clinical service.
  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program by the start of the fellowship.

Requirements

  • Ability to protect the confidentiality and meet all ethical standards associated with the practice of psychology within a university counseling center context.
  • Strong case formulation, assessment and treatment skills, including the ability to understand transference and countertransference in working clinically with a diversity of clients, issues and levels of impairment.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, able to dialogue effectively with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to effectively utilize an electronic medical records system.
  • Ability to take the lead when appropriate, both administratively and clinically.
  • Also, ability to collaborate collegially with multidisciplinary staff, both within the Counseling Center and throughout the University community.
  • Knowledge of developmental trends and concerns of undergraduates, as well as graduate and professional students.
  • Furthermore, the ability to engage in an ongoing pursuit of self-knowledge and understanding of own personal factors affecting clinical work.
