Apply for Research Fellowship at the University of Michigan in the United States of America. The fellow will work in the area of robotics and control for smart manufacturing systems, see  https://sdc-mfg.engin.umich.edu/. Moreover, the postdoc will work with Professors Dawn Tilbury and Kira Barton in Mechanical Engineering and the Robotics Institute at the University of Michigan.

Responsibilities

The research will bring together large data sets collected in real-time from the factory floor and created by real-time simulations, into a digital twin framework for monitoring, analysis, and predictive decision making. New control algorithms will be developed to improve the overall performance of the manufacturing system along the dimensions of productivity, quality, adaptability, and sustainability.

The postdoc will also work with a smart, agile industrial testbed at the University of Michigan; that includes industrial collaborative robots, CNC machines, and 3D printers, instrumented with industrial-quality sensors and controllers. Multiple graduate and undergraduate students work in the group, and there is good collaboration with industrial partners. Funding comes from NSF, government labs, and industry.

Required Qualifications

The following qualifications are necessary for Research Fellowship at the University of Michigan

  • A recent PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a related field).
  • Experience in control systems (theory and/or application); excellent communication skills.
