Applications call for Research Fellowship at the University of Utah in the United States. The Research Fellow will be responsible for providing study interventions (e.g., mindfulness, CBT, support groups ) for research on psychological treatments for chronic pain and prescription opioid-related problems. Performs biomedical and/or social-behavioral research by enrolling participants; administering tests and/or questionnaires following protocols; collecting, compiling, tabulating &/or processing responses; gathering and reporting information. Coauthors scientific manuscripts for publication.

This position is considered Category IIA: Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID-19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking, and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID-19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities 

Candidates on this Research Fellowship at the University of Utah will do the following duties

  • Provides study interventions (e.g., mindfulness, CBT, support groups).
  • Recruits study participants and & obtains informed consent.
  • Contact participants to schedule study visits and follow-ups.
  • Conducts research assessments, involving the administration of structured clinical diagnostic interviews, self-report questionnaires, computer-based cognitive tasks, and psychophysiological measurement.
  • Collects survey data.
  • Reviews medical records.
  • Consults with nurses & physicians to determine pretreatment & eligibility requirements of protocol from completion to registration of participants.
  • Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.
  • Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.
  • Database management.
  • Distributes participant incentives.
  • May train other research staff to interview/test participants.
  • Assists in coauthoring scientific manuscripts for publication.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements 

To be eligible for Research Fellowship at the University of Utah, candidates have the following qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing.
  • A licensed therapist with experience delivering mindfulness, CBT, or social support interventions.
  • Prior to the clinical trial research experience involving direct patient contact.
  • Experience working with substance use disorders and/or chronic pain.
  • Prior research experience collecting and processing physiological data (e.g., heart rate).
  • Professional or volunteer experience with research studies including assessments human study subjects, phone follow-ups, maintaining study databases.
