Details

Shakespeare Scholarship aims doctoral candidates with an excellent university degree. Further, the candidates receiving the scholarship can demonstrate a conceptual connection between the research project. Moreover, the main focus of the graduate supporters is the early modern period in a broader sense, including the baroque as well as the processes of its reception and transformation to the present day. Interdisciplinary and comparative projects on theater, on Shakespeare and his contemporaries as well as on the tradition and recording of early modern times in Germany and above all in the Weimar Classical period are particularly welcome.

Klassik Stiftung Weimar in association with German Shakespeare foundation provides the scholarships for projects whose realization are ambitious.

Benefits

The funding period is two to three months. Once a year, two fellowships will receive Shakespeare Scholarship amounting to 1,000 euros per month.

Criteria for the award

  • a clear reference of the research project to the collection holdings of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar
  • Likewise, the scientific qualification of the applicant
  • Also, the importance of the work project for scientific research

Committee members from Klassik Stiftung Weimar and Advisory Council of the Shakespeare Foundation determine the scholarship winners. However, there is no legal claim to a Shakespeare scholarship.

Required documents

PhD Applicants wishing to submit their candidature for the Shakespeare Foundation Scholarship in Germany will require to submit the following documents.

  • Application form
  • Likewise, Short description of the research project (10-15 lines). It may be published on the websites of the German Shakespeare Foundation and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar if a scholarship is granted
  • Further, a more detailed description of the research project, which profiled the own research interest, outlines the current research situation, represents the own preparatory work and explains the specific support of the research project by a stay in Weimar (5-6 pages)
  • Also, Tabular CV, list of publications, certificates
  • Letter of recommendation from a university lecturer on the research project

Application deadline

The application deadline is January 31st, 2020. The scholarship applications are decided in March of each year.
