Description:

There are seven higher education institutions in Iceland. Three of them are private and four are public. Additionally, the students from Europe are charged less than non-EU students. 5% of all the students studying in universities in Iceland are international. Iceland is keen on attracting talent from abroad through international admissions and exchange programs. Moreover, most undergraduate programs are taught in the Icelandic language whereas most postgraduate programs use English as their medium of instruction.

2021 Scholarships in Iceland

Though non-EU students have to pay more, there are generous funding’s available at universities in Iceland. In this article, we are discussing a few of them.

1) Icelandic Government Scholarships

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture provides scholarships for students to study Icelandic as a second language. This program is provided at the University of Iceland and is administered by Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies. Students from certain countries are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Also, students must have completed one year of university study and have some knowledge of the language in order to be eligible. Liewise, the scholarship covers registration fees, a monthly stipend, and free room and board. 2) University of Iceland Scholarships

The University of Iceland is a public research university. It is located in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the oldest as well as largest higher education institute in Iceland. Scholarships at the University of Iceland are provided through different funds. Scholars and researchers can apply for grants and scholarships through these funds. Furthermore, there are several of these funds. One of them is The Watanabe Trust Fund which provides scholarships to study in Iceland and Japan for undergraduates and postgraduate programs. Secondly, there is the University of Iceland scholarship Funds through which support projects in different fields. In addition to this, there is the University of Iceland Student Achievement and Incentive Fund that provides grants to students who have shown great academic performance at the secondary level. 3) Reykjavik University Scholarships

There are a few scholarships for existing full-time students at Reykjavik University. For undergraduate students, scholarships covering a semester’s fees are provided if they achieve excellent results and make it to the Dean’s list. For graduate studies, there are two different scholarships. Also, the first category is the Sustainable Future Scholarship, which covers the fees of students of Iceland School of Energy partially.  Likewise, the second one is the Future Arctic Energy Scholarship which is provided for graduate students of the Iceland School of Energy with an interest in the Arctic. 4) Erasmus+ Scholarships and Grants

Erasmus+ is a program aimed at promoting cooperation between educational institutions of Europe. Universities in Iceland such as the University of Iceland play an active role in this program and welcome students from different member countries of the program every year. Students applying for the exchange/mobility program can get subsistence grants and travel grants for their studies in Iceland. Furthermore, the study period can last between 3 and 12 months and students may apply again afterward. Moreover, many other opportunities are available for students under this program. 5) Icelandic Research Fund and Icelandic Student Innovation Fund

Icelandic Research Fund and the Icelandic Student Innovation Fund are two funds that provide funding for research. Icelandic Research Funds cater to researchers in universities, research institutes, and companies in Island. They provide funding for research projects selected as per the priorities of the Icelandic Science and Technology Policy Council. Icelandic Student Innovation Fund provides funding for students attending undergraduate or graduate studies. The funding is provided to students to conduct research in the summers.
