Working to Advance STEM Education in African Women (WAAW) foundation is accepting WAAW Scholarship application for Women in STEM. The WAAW foundation’s annual scholarship initiative aims to support need-based African female STEM-focused college education. Awardees must demonstrate financial need and a strong commitment to participating in building Africa. The initiative also promotes peers networks that provide support and mentoring to ensure completion in their chosen STEM fields.

WAAW Scholarship for Women in STEM

The female students successful to receive the WAAW Scholarship will receive an amount of $500 to assist in their college education.

Eligibility for the WAAW Scholarship for Women in STEM

Candidates are eligible for the WAAW female Scholarship in STEM if their profile aligns with the following criteria:

  • Female students of African origin, living and studying in Africa.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate B.S.degree program.
  • Likewise, studying STEM-related courses in a University or college in Africa.
  • Demonstrable financial need, and
  • Excellent Academic Record.
  • Below the age of 32 years.

How to apply for WAAW Scholarship for Women in STEM?

In order to apply for the WAAW Scholarship for Women in STEM, applicants will require to fill out the online applications form. Students should further note that the WAAW foundation will not accept the paper application this year. Along with the application form, the candidates must also submit the following:

  • Personal and Contact Information.
  • Educational background as well as Family Information.
  • Further, statement of need describing why the student needs scholarship funds and what she will use it for.
  • Likewise, an essay that addresses career goals and how you expect the WAAW scholarship will assist in your education.
    • In 500 words or less, please write an essay on your future career goals and how you expect the WAAW foundation scholarship will assist in fulfilling those goals.
    • In 300 words or less, please describe what you believe about female education in Africa and its impact on research, development or advancement in African economies.
    • Describe in ten or fewer sentences why you need a scholarship. Tell us about your need or personal/family/financial situation and how the funds from WAAW scholarship will assist your education and/or career plans.
  • Also, two academic/professional references. Students should, however, note that recommendations and transcripts are not necessary at the beginning of the application. They are needed only after a candidate has been shortlisted. However, you must provide the names of 2 references in your application.

Deadline

The Working to Advance STEM Education in African Women Foundation will accept the application for the WAAW Scholarship for Women in STEM until November 15, 2019. Applications arriving after the deadline are not valid for scholarships.
