Application call for Global Surgery Fellowship at Creighton University School of Medicine. The Global Surgery fellow performs operations/procedures and is taught para-operative care not learned in a general surgery residency, but necessary in a developing country.
Your training may include a week on orthopedics for casting, a week on radiology for ultrasonography training, a week on pediatric anesthesia, a week in our NICU with a neonatologist, a two-day cadaver lab that includes burr holes with a neurosurgeon, eye enucleations with an ophthalmologist, how to train inguinal herniorrhaphy and hand sewn bowel anastomoses with the Fellowship Program Director.
You may also enhance your skills by working cutaneous flaps with a plastic surgeon, rapid splenectomy with a traumatologist, two nephrectomies and a psoas hitch procedure with a urologist. The last rotation may include time at the Maricopa County Burn Center in Phoenix, AZ where the fellow would perform procedures including split thickness skin grafts, tangential debridement’s, contracture releases and escharotomies.
