Application call for Global Surgery Fellowship at Creighton University School of Medicine. The Global Surgery fellow performs operations/procedures and is taught para-operative care not learned in a general surgery residency, but necessary in a developing country.

Position Summary

Your training may include a week on orthopedics for casting, a week on radiology for ultrasonography training, a week on pediatric anesthesia, a week in our NICU with a neonatologist, a two-day cadaver lab that includes burr holes with a neurosurgeon, eye enucleations with an ophthalmologist, how to train inguinal herniorrhaphy and hand sewn bowel anastomoses with the Fellowship Program Director.

You may also enhance your skills by working cutaneous flaps with a plastic surgeon, rapid splenectomy with a traumatologist, two nephrectomies and a psoas hitch procedure with a urologist. The last rotation may include time at the Maricopa County Burn Center in Phoenix, AZ where the fellow would perform procedures including split thickness skin grafts, tangential debridement’s, contracture releases and escharotomies.

Qualifications

Candidates must have the following things for this Postdoctoral Fellowship at Creighton University

  • Applicants must have finished an ACGME approved surgical residency by June 30, 2021 and are board certified, or if within 1 year of residency completion qualified to take the American Board of Surgery QE/CE examinations.
  • Strong ability to interpret data and to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Strong work ethic, excellent written and communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon research needs.
