Oklahoma Baptist University is looking for an Assistant Professor of Chemistry with a strong commitment to the Christian faith and to teaching undergraduate students. As the successful candidate, you will guide students in the integration of faith and learning in chemistry while challenging them to pursue academic excellence. Likewise, teaching introductory labs in chemistry and physical science will be your primary focus. Lecturing in various courses in the catalog according to your qualifications and department needs, as well as developing new courses that align with your interests and background, will also be possible. Your background in organic chemistry is a plus.

Essential Functions

• Teach labs and/or lectures in introductory chemistry and physical science courses as assigned
• Prepare and distribute syllabi according to University policy
• Also, organize and direct the learning experiences with assigned classes as outlined in the course syllabus and objectives
• Moreover, meet classes as scheduled and required
• Keep accurate class records and submit reports and grades on time and as requested
• Be available during office hours to counsel and advise student majors and minors
• Furthermore, participate in divisional duties as assigned
• Remain professionally active – attend appropriate conference at all levels, present programs, papers as appropriate, submit journal articles for review and publication, conduct quality research, stay current on latest changes in field
• Similarly, participate within the campus community, serving on committees as assigned
• Participate fully in campus faculty development opportunities
• Additionally, represent the University, College, and Division at the state, regional, or national level
• Also, assist in recruiting students to the chemistry and biochemistry majors

Other Duties

• Assist with the assessment process and accreditation reporting for the chemistry and biochemistry majors
• Likewise, work with Admissions to recruit students to the majors
• Network within the community to help students connect with industry
• Help to maintain the chemistry stockroom

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Able to conduct a college classroom so as to maximize the student learning experience
• Possess and demonstrate strong pedagogy
• Also, able to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of constituents
• Be able to assess student ability and adjust teaching as appropriate
• Likewise, be able to work effectively with college age students in either 1 on 1 advisement, small group settings, or large classroom environments
• Possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
• Additionally, be able to relate to colleagues in the OBU community as well as be a representative to the professional community beyond OBU
• Furthermore, ability to conduct 2 to 3 classes back to back
• Proficiency with office and educational technology, software (including various Microsoft tools), and classroom presentation technology
• Able to teach evening labs
