About:

The University of Alaska Anchorage is the state’s largest post-secondary institution. It is comprised of the Anchorage Campus located in the heart of Alaska’s largest city, as well as Kenai Peninsula College, Matanuska-Susitna College, Kodiak College and Prince William Sound College, all located in some of the most beautiful places in Alaska.

Responsibilities:

  • Advances the mission and vision of the University, builds and maintains external relationships critical to the success of the University.

  • Similarly, serves on the University of Alaska President’s Cabinet and leadership team  and collaborates with the University of Alaska System, University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), and University of Alaska Southeast

  • Likewise, leads Chancellor’s Cabinet and the University’s administration of instruction, finance and operations, safety, and student service and life programs.

  • Also, develops, updates, and presents to the UA Board of Regents campus master plans.

  • Furthermore, prepares annual capital plans.

  • Additionally, advances items for the UA Board of Regents’ meeting agendas and actively participates in Board of Regents’ meetings.

  • Also, appoints a chief academic officer, senior administrators, faculty, professors emeritus and emerita, and individuals to university councils. Designates a chief financial officer.

  • Moreover, makes determinations on promotion and tenure. Establishes committees for the naming of facilities and nomination of honorary degree and meritorious service award recipients.

  • Similarly, oversees development of UAA budget. Ensures deficit spending does not occur.

Skills

  • Ability and energy to lead a complex, multi-faceted university.
  • Similarly, senior level leadership and administrative experience within an academic environment.
  • Likewise, demonstrated financial acumen and experience solving challenging financial issues with minimal reduction of services.
  • Also, a record of commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Additionally, a demonstrated record of commitment to faculty research and scholarship as well as excellence in university teaching;
  • Moreover, a clear understanding and commitment to shared governance values and processes.

Experience:

  • At least 7 years executive level administrative experience in higher education.
  • Also, substantial additional executive, faculty, researcher, and/or management experience at a university or a major research organization.
  • Experience in a public higher education institution and multi-campus system.
  • Likewise, experience working successfully in a collective bargaining environment.
