Job Description: 

The Communications Associate reports to the Assistant Director of Communications and is responsible for assisting with the formulation and direction of the College’s public relations program including news releases, publications, and community involvement both digitally and in print.

The duties and responsibilities

  • Produces, creates and publishes engaging written content and multimedia-based – audio, photography, video – content for delivery across the web and other media platforms.
  • Additionally, writes campus news stories for distribution online and in print.
  • Conducts interviews and writes in many styles and genres for key audiences.
  • Also, understands the use of social media as a tool to communicate the College’s messages and engages in social media efforts in a collaborative way.
  • Likewise, coordinates the creation of content for social media.
  • Uses analytics and provides assessment of social media efforts and news content. Uses web-based systems to update the website.
  • Moreover, organizes, directs, produces and edits video and photographic coverage of events both on and off campus in support of the college’s strategic marketing and communication efforts. Assists with the development, implementation and assessment of marketing plans to advance the mission of the College.
  • Also, assists with cultivating networks of story sources on campus, with alumni, and through the various faculty and student committees and groups on campus.
  • Similarly, supervises student intern on specific project assignments and coordinates a collaborative experience for them.
  • Edits communication projects as identified and assists in proofreading materials for accuracy and style.
  • Furthermore, promotes featured campus events and organizes regional publicity for lectures, talks and other special events.
  •  Similarly, supports the Office of University Relations with development and other activities and events that are outside of normal business hours and that include some evening and weekend work

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, marketing, communications, journalism or related field.
  • Also, one to three years of professional experience preferably with some experience in the communications field, including online and print communications, social media, media relations, journalism and public relations.
  • Likewise, excellent interpersonal, writing, editing and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects under time and resource pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Additionally, detail and results-oriented; superior grammar and spelling.
  • Likewise, knowledge of the latest advances in effective use of digital and social media for effective corporate communication; including for online communities. Additionally, search engine optimization.
