Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. Additionally, the University provides technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. Likewise, the University collaborates with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

Position would lead field crews for CEMML Fort McCoy Invasive Species, Wildlife and Threatened and Endangered Species projects.  A high percentage of this position would be conducting invasive species treatments using precise treatment and survey methods. Also, treatment methods include mechanical removal and specialized herbicide applications.  Likewise, position would also work independently at times or be part of a group.   Furthermore, position would assist in the training of field crew members on invasive species treatment and survey methods, collect data and have strong plant species identification skills. Position would execute invasive species treatments, surveys and data collection.

Required Job Qualifications

  • BA/BS in wildlife management, forestry, conservation biology, horticulture, or related applied science, with emphasis on natural resource management; four years of relevant experience in natural resource, wildlife or exotic species control can substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Moreover, must have or be able to obtain and maintain a State of Wisconsin certification for herbicide application, certification as a wildland firefighter, and a driver’s license.
  • Also, position requires the ability to work outdoors in rough terrain and inclement weather, and to lift 50-70 pounds repetitively.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • Likewise, the successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience on working on Military Installations.
  • Also, experience working with invasive plant species and knowledge of Fort McCoy invasive plant species populations, survey and control methods.  Knowledge and experience surveying for threatened and endangered reptiles of Wisconsin and those found on Fort McCoy.
  • Experience aging harvest whitetail deer by jawbone tooth wear.
  • Additionally, experience coordinating with Range Control for training area access.
