Description:

The University of Wisconsin-Stout invites applications for a new Digital Process Lab Supervisor. An ideal candidate will bring a maker ethos to current and emerging technologies and to the community in which they are used. Moreover, management of the Digital Process Lab requires advanced technical, instructional knowledge, and skills to operate and maintain a wide variety of digital 2D and 3D printing and fabrication technology. This position involves instructional support in digital fabrication and documentation for all the Bachelor of Fine Art programs in art and design as well as the Bachelor of Science programs. Research and implement – in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students – new equipment, hardware and software as it pertains to industry-standard digital art and design fabrication and documentation.

Qualification

Minimum/ Required

  • Minimum of two years of experience in hands-on technology skills, including management of color printing and/or 3D printing technologies
  • Also, knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, & lnDesign) and Microsoft Office Suite (such as Outlook and Excel)
  • Experience in operating and maintaining 2D printing technology and software, such as inkjet printers, laser printers, vinyl cutters, flatbed scanners, and wide-format plotters
  • Likewise, willingness to learn about the operation and maintenance of 3D digital fabrication technology and software, such as 3D printers, 3D scanning equipment, and industrial-grade laser cutters
  • Additionally, ability and desire to work with a diverse pool of clients, users, and personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills in working with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff
  • Furthermore, ability to independently pursue grant writing and professional development in the acquisition of new industry-standard skills, technologies, software, and equipment operation
  • Also, work independently and as part of a team environment on collaborative efforts

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (art, design, graphic design/communications, industrial design, or similar)
  • Experience in an educational environment, or a similar experience in a related industry field
  • Also, experience with the operation and maintenance of 3D digital fabrication technology and software, such as 3D printers, 3D scanning equipment, and industrial-grade laser cutters
  • Experience supervising others
  • Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, initiative, thoroughness and resourcefulness
  • Likewise, experience working in a hybrid computer operating system environment (MacOS & Windows)
  • Furthermore, experience monitoring a budget

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the Digital Process Lab in a cross-disciplinary mileu
  • Operate and maintain a wide variety of digital 2D and 3D printing and fabrication equipment
  • Also, collaborate with Learning and Information Technology area on campus, which includes; working with software licensing, instructional hardware, faculty laptop purchases and inventory, and digital teaching environments such as labs and classrooms.
  • Likewise, train and supervise both student and limited term employees in the Digital Process Lab
  • Additionally, other duties as necessary.
