Position Summary:

This position is on site on our Cullowhee campus.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Marketing, the Social Media Manager is responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise-level social media strategy for enhancing the WCU brand, engaging target audiences, and increasing the university’s social media presence across all social media platforms. Also, the Social Media Manager will build a robust network with internal and external stakeholders and achieve strong engagement and outcomes in the following areas: developing content, strategic management and posting across social media platforms to generate prospective student inquiries, drive enrollment and engagement. Likewise, this role will develop a strategic and sophisticated framework to establish and grow communities of distinct audiences across a variety of interactive and interconnected social media networks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the creation and implementation of a comprehensive, strategic social media marketing plan that is driven by engagement, recruitment and retention.
  • Also, work closely with the undergraduate, graduate, distance admissions teams to outline a social media strategy and define the value proposition of academic programs.
  • Likewise, work closely with the communications team to promote important research, awards, honors and institutional events.
  • Create, schedule and post content on all WCU social media channels, ensuring that the content is fresh and engaging.
  • Additionally, audit and assess the current state and strategy of WCU’s social media accounts, comparing current performance and strategy to peer schools and industry benchmarks
  • Leverage web and social analytics tools to produce monthly and campaign-level social media reports.
  • Likewise, include key performance indicators (KPIs) such as engagement, reach, and follower growth.
  • Include industry benchmarks for measuring the true effectiveness of social media campaigns.
  • Moreover, make organic recommendations to maintain or improve performance.
  • Additionally, manage a content calendar that includes the minimum posting frequency.
  • Identify and implement new ways to foster the WCU brand through social media.
  • Evaluate and recommend hashtags, contests and influencer outreach strategies.
  • Also, actively review and contribute to the crisis communications plan for various scenarios.
  • Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content.
  • Furthermore, ensure that the WCU brand is properly and uniformly represented on social media.
  • Likewise, assist WCU academic programs and departments’ social media strategies when needed.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy and stay up to date on the latest social media capabilities
  • Identify promotional opportunities and coordinate videography, live streaming, photography, graphic design, technical support or other resources to successfully implement a robust enterprise-level social media strategy.
  • Similarly, supervise one staff member, student workers and department interns.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Also, all degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience overseeing enterprise-level social media strategy for a brand with 50,000+ followers;
  • Knowledge and experience working with or within an organization that has multiple sub-brand channels with multiple owners;
  • Likewise, experience working on crisis communications teams;
  • Also, experience working with social listening and management platforms;
  • Additionally, understand the different target audiences for each of our social media channels and curate and create content to engage specifically with those distinct audiences.
