Overview

New Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Also, aligned with Rutgers University-New Brunswick and collaborating university wide, RBHS includes eight schools, a behavioral health network, and six centers and institutes that focus on cancer treatment and research. Likewise, neuroscience, clinical and translational research, advanced biotechnology and medicine, environmental and occupational health, and health care policy and aging research.

Duties:

  • Conducts Initial assessment and intake; obtaining social, medical, mental health, addiction and medication history.
  • Obtains all necessary consents to treat and release information, in order to coordinate care with other health providers.
  • Also, reviews intake with Medical Director or CARE Center provider to establish an appropriate individualized treatment plan.
  • Additionally, assesses signs and symptoms of opioid withdrawal using the Clinical Opioid Withdrawal Scale (COWS)
  • Handles assessment and monitoring of clients in the induction, stabilization and maintenance phases of treatment.
  • Moreover, monitors response to the treatment plan and makes changes, as needed, to respond to client needs.
  • Schedules appointments, random toxicology screens, random medication call-backs and labs, as needed.
  • Makes appropriate referrals for primary care, medical, addiction, counseling and social service needs.
  • Likewise, works with Medical Director to obtain medication orders, prescriptions, refills and administers extended release formulations of medications for opioid use disorder, as needed.
  • Provides care in-person or via telephone when required.
  • Similarly, serves as a prescription monitoring program delegate and provides this information to the prescriber.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree required. Excellent phlebotomy and physical assessment skills.
  • Prior research nursing, other research experience, and/or experience with NIH funded clinical trials.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Licensed RN in the state of New Jersey with 3 years of nursing experience.
  • Maintains active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with people with substance use disorders and/or mental illness.
  • Association of Clinical Research Profession (ACRP), Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA), or other research certification.
