Overview

New Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the department of Medicine – Infectious Diseases with the New Jersey Medical School.  Additionally, under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will play a critical role in developing new drugs to treat tuberculosis. Likewise, the specific focus will be to investigate the mechanisms by which glpK phase variation contribute to drug tolerance, and the design of a novel prodrug delivery approach to better treat persistent and drug tolerant TB.

Duties

Among the key duties of this position are the following for Vacancy for Postdoctoral Fellow in the USA:

  • Performs studies to understand the mechanisms underlying drug tolerance in glpK Mtb mutants including genetic and metabolic studies.
  • Also, performs studies to develop prodrugs that can be used to treat Mtb.
  • Conducts additional experiments as needed.
  • Likewise, performs genetic manipulations of M. tuberculosis and other mycobacteria including cloning, and gene knockouts.
  • Similarly, prepares manuscripts for publication of data generated.
  • Additionally, communicates with and prepares written reports for academic and commercial collaborators.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree in relevant science.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Experience includes independent design and conduction of genetic and microbiological studies, experience performing unsupervised work in the BSLIII on M. tuberculosis, ability to analyze next generation DNA sequencing data.
  • Also, experience in automated, high-throughput fluidic studies of bacterial growth.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet.
  • Likewise, hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail.
  • Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
  • Moreover, must be willing to work with small and large animals.

Special Conditions

  • Includes training in BSL3 practices, and willingness to work with virulent and drug-resistant M. tuberculosis.
  • Also, must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays when necessary to meet deadlines.
