Job Description

The Cook Counseling Center provides mental health services to the student community of Virginia Tech. The Staff Counselor-International Focus works with a multidisciplinary staff of counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care. Additionally, in 2019, the strategic plan for Virginia Tech, “The Virginia Tech Difference: Advancing Beyond Boundaries” integrated inclusion and diversity as a key university priority. Also, a part of this plan is to increase the recruitment of underrepresented students to 25% of the entering class for 2022 with the goal of closing the graduation gap for these students. Moreover, cook Counseling Center supports the academic mission of the university and has focused upon growing the multicultural competence and ethnic and racial diversity of the counseling staff.

 Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or family therapy with two years of experience OR PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Also, experience in providing focused therapeutic interventions.
  • Additionally, training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions. 
  • Furthermore, experience and interest in working with international students
  • Moreover, bilingual
  • Also, experience or interest in working students from under-represented populations
  • Similarly, strong commitment to social justice and issues of diversity
  • Likewise, licensed or eligible for licensure within 2 years
