Organizational Setting

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA’s Major Program 2, “Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection”. This Major Program comprises individual programs on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programs are supported by laboratories in Beiersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. Also, the Major Program’s objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development program.

Function:

  • Rear and maintain Aedes aegypti mosquito laboratory colonies (including preparation of diet, collection of eggs, putting larvae in the trays. Additionally, setting-up of rearing cages, feeding of adults, separating males from females, and cleaning of the cages).
  • Also, initiate and establish new colonies using mosquitoes that have been collected in the wild.
  • Support research activities related to the rearing and quality control of Aedes aegypti mosquito species (e.g. conducting tests, recording results and maintaining equipment).
  • Likewise, prepare shipments of biological materials.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Completed secondary education. Specialized training or education in the subject area an advantage.
  • Moreover, minimum of three years of working experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Working experience at the international level an asset.
  • Also, knowledge in the use of irradiation sources an asset.
  • Good oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
  • Likewise, English Language Test (Level 2) at IAEA standard.
