Summary:

This position is located in the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD) of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) at Headquarters. Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Security Council Secretariat Branch (SCSB), the Meetings Services Assistant reports to a Team Leader.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Meetings Services Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Produces daily and weekly program of assigned Security Council meetings/conferences approved by senior staff for distribution;
  • Furthermore, prepares and organizes sets of official documentation for distribution;
  • Moreover, ensures the preparation of procedural notes for the President of the Council of assigned Council meetings/conferences.
  • Also, assists in the preparation of the preliminary list of speakers and annotation of agenda items, the list of participants, and daily material concerning the proceeding of council and meetings/conferences;
  • Likewise, undertakes research and provides reference materials for preparation of briefs, notes and statements for the President of the Security Council and Council meetings;
  • Moreover, maintains an accurate record of speakers and/or an attendance record and coordinate with the Secretariat, verbatim reporters and delegations on their position on the list of speakers using iSCAD;.
  • Additionally, ensures that reports of the Security Council meet the UN document standards and coordinates with the documents control office for reproduction of reports using gDocs.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in conference support or related area is required.

Experience in providing support services to the Security Council or its subsidiary bodies is desirable.

Experience in processing documents in gDocs and task processing in Umoja is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
