Applications for the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Prize for War Correspondents 2023 are now open. The Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Prize for War Correspondents rewards a report on a conflict situation or its consequences for civilian populations, or on a current event concerning the defence of freedoms and democracy.

Media categories represented are radio – photo – television (short and long formats) – print media and the Young Reporter Award (print media this year).

Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Prize

Seven prizes awarded by the international jury:

  • Prize of the Department of Calvados – Category Written press – €7,000
  • Amnesty International Award – Television Category – €7,000
  • Landing Committee Award – Radio Category – €7,000
  • Nikon Prize – Photo Category – €7,000
  • International Crisis Group Award – Large Format Television Category – €7,000
  • Crédit Agricole Normandie Prize – Young Reporter Category – €3,000
  • Prix Arte, France 24 and France Télévisions – Video Image category – €3,000

Three special prizes:

  • The Ouest-France Prize – Jean Marin (written press) – €4,000
  • The Public Prize (photo) sponsored by the French Development Agency – €3,000
  • The Normandy Region Prize for High School Students and Apprentices (television) – €3,000

Eligibility for Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Prize

  • Open to War Correspondents with a report on a conflict situation.
  • The report must have been made between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.

Note:

Reports published or broadcast only on a digital media can apply in the same way as the others (no publication obligation for the photo category).

  • Young Reporter Award: In 2023, the category concerned is the written press. As this is a different category depending on the year, the report presented must be made between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2023.
  • Television category: the duration of the report must be between 1’30 and 6 minutes. The story must be presented as it was broadcast.
  • Radio category: the duration of the report must be between 1 and 6 minutes. The story must be presented as it was broadcast.
  • Photo category: the application consists of a report of 8 to 15 photos.
  • Large format television category: the duration of the report must be between 6 and 30 minutes. The story must be presented as it was broadcast.
  • Print category: the nomination consists of one article or series of one to five articles on the same topic. The story must be presented as published.
