Applications are now open for the fully funded 2019 ProSPER.Net Sustainability Leadership Program. ProSPER.NET will host the program in association with the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City, Philippines in November. Moreover, the theme of this year’s Program is ‘Engineering Approaches to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Towards Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region’.

Bringing together a diverse group of individuals – from academia, the public sector, the business community, and civil society from around the Asia-Pacific region, both from the social sciences and natural sciences, participants will learn about the challenges and opportunities in relation to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and management.

The week-long program will expose future sustainability leaders to engineering principles and tools that can aid in formulating sustainable solutions for the Asia-Pacific region, taking into consideration the vulnerability of the region to both man-made and natural disasters. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills in the context of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Participants of the Leadership Programme will:

  • Gain competencies in adaptive leadership, which involves creativity, appreciative thinking, alternative scenario building, and future visioning.
  • Likewise, gain skills in communication and consensual decision-making processes in group settings and through simulation exercises.
  • Further, learn project development skills through problem-based learning cases in the community.
