2024 European Cross-Border Grants ( Journalism Fund )

The 2024 European Cross-Border Grants and Mentoring Programme, building on its legacy since 2009, endeavors to combat the scarcity of independent journalism by providing financial support to investigative journalism projects in Europe. This initiative not only fosters cross-border collaboration but also encourages the development of impactful stories that are both relevant to European target groups and possess significant news value. The awarded grants will empower cross-border teams of professional journalists and news outlets to undertake original, innovative, and time-consuming projects, including cross-border research, networking initiatives, and the application of established and cutting-edge investigative methods.

Next to a grant, teams can also apply for a mentor to provide assistance with either the focus of the investigation or the need for competences in a specific skill.

Funding for 2024 European Cross-Border Grants

• In 2024 we target a total grant budget of €900,000 to distribute over four application rounds (€225,000 per call).

Journalism fund Europe supports costs related to journalistic research for all media. This can include travel, translation, access to pay-databases or simply time to research. We do not support fixed costs such as office costs, investments such as cameras or computers or production costs.

Eligibility 

• Teams of journalists and/or independent media from at least two countries in continental Europe are eligible to apply.
• When relevant for the story, team members from elsewhere can be accepted too.

Application deadline for 2024 European Cross-Border Grants

For this grant programme there are 4 application rounds scheduled in 2024.

• The first application deadline will be Thursday 29 February 2024 at 1pm CET. TBC!
• The second deadline will be Thursday 23 May 2024 at 1pm CET. TBC!
• The third deadline will be Thursday 23 August 2024 at 1 pm CEST. TBC!
• The fourth deadline was: Thursday 7 November 2024 at 1 pm CEST. TBC!
