An internship is available at Data Protection Office at INTERPOL in Lyon, France. The INTERPOL Data Protection Office is tasked with the independent compliance control of data processing operations within the Interpol Information System.

The Office further ensures that the Organization’s data processing framework is promoted and facilitated through the appropriate legal, technical, operational and organizational channels. It also encourages a data protection culture within the Organization. The Office reports directly to the Secretary General.

Key Responsibilities

The main functions of this unit are as follows:

  • Control compliance on the implementation of INTERPOL’s data protection framework and take appropriate measures to improve internal control and risk management regarding data processing operations.
  • Advice in data processing activities, specially when likely to entail high risks for the data subject.
  • Ensure coordination with all data protection officers designated at NCB level and at the international partnership level.
  • Strengthen a data protection culture among staff.
  • Ensure liaison with the Commission of Control of INTERPOL’s files on data protection issues.
  • Cooperate with data protection officers of other institutions to exchange best practices.

Primary Duties

Under the direct supervision of the INTERPOL Data Protection Officer and working as part of the DPO team, the selected candidate will assist with

  • Research on and monitoring of new data protection developments.
  • Assist in the preparation of meetings, trainings, workshops, conferences.
  • Drafting of technical notes, leaflets, training material with regard to the activities of the DPO.
  • Carry out any other duty assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Candidates for this Data Protection Internship at INTERPOL must have the following qualifications

  • Be a national of one of INTERPOL’s 194 member countries.
  • Have graduated from, a post-secondary accredited academic institution at Master’s level within the past one year on the date of submission of their application in the field of Law very preferably with a specialization in ICT Law/data protection or at least proven interested in ICTLaw/data protection.
  • Professional fluency in English or French.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong interest in IT aspects of Data Protection.
