Applications are open for Development & Outreach Internship at Human Rights Watch in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Development & Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an intern for its Copenhagen office. Ideally, the intern will be available 20 to 40 hours per week, depending on the associated ECTS-credits from the academic institution, starting in late August/beginning of September (for a total of 20 weeks).

Responsibilities

The main tasks during the internship at Human Rights Watch in Denmark may include:

  • Outreach and fundraising: The intern will assist in HRW’s work of promoting and protecting human rights with a focus on outreach and fundraising activities. Furthermore, the intern will support the team by planning and organizing events; helping create content and strategy; drafting documents and other correspondence related to donor outreach; operating the fundraising and donor management database; conducting prospect research; and conducting desk research for development and outreach projects. In particular, the intern will assist with the planning and facilitation of our yearly voices for justice event, which takes place in the fall of 2021.
  • Communication: Interns will assist with developing and deploying a communications strategy, that will enhance Human Rights Watch presence on social media. This will include attending weekly meetings with the communications team in Stockholm. Interns will also help produce content and text for newsletters and invitations to events and seminars, as well as drafting monthly communication reports.
  • Students may also have opportunities to attend lectures, training, professional development workshops, and special events relating to human rights, as well as network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees. As an HRW intern, students will take skills acquired in school and apply them in a professional setting.

Qualifications

  • Successful applicants must be currently enrolled students for the duration of their internship.
  • Applicants who are enrolled in a relevant academic undergraduate or graduate programme that has touched upon either communications or human rights are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants pursuing professional bachelor programmes may also be considered. Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated, creative, flexible, and detail- oriented with excellent time management skills.
  • Experience with collaborating within a team is desirable. Experience with creating content for social media is highly desirable.
  • Experience with graphical software editing programs is desirable.
  • Internet research skills and familiarity with MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel, are essential.
  • Given the focus on communications, it is a requirement that candidates have excellent written and oral skills in English and are native in Danish.
  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in communication, fundraising, and human rights.
