UN calls for internship application for Economic Affairs in Santiago, Chile. The internship in the ECLAC’s Division of Sustainable Development and Human Settlements – Santiago- will last 3 months. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the internship period. Duties may include: assistance in drafting and preparing official documents, preparation of a study to estimate the potential of public policy measures for achieving both climate goals and the SDGs.

  • Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national as well as cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.
  • Creativity: Actively seeks to improve programmes or services; however, is not bound by current thinking or traditional approaches.
  • Technological Awareness: Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability as well as limitation of technology to the work of the office; further, actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is desirable for the internship. Further, Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.  Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
