Intern at US Climate Alliance 2024

2024 Intern at US Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors securing America’s net-zero future by advancing state-led, high-impact climate action.

The Alliance Secretariat helps its members accelerate climate action by providing a broad range of technical, analytical, policy, and capacity assistance and resources. The coalition has also built strong relationships with the federal administration to help create and implement an ambitious, durable national climate framework.

The U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat is seeking an intern ready to contribute to its research, policy development, peer-to-peer learning, and coordination work. The intern will respond to specific project-level needs such as tracking policy progress and implementation, drafting policy briefing papers, and providing general coordination and program support. This role is an opportunity to gain a comprehensive and in-depth and understanding of the types of policies and actions U.S. states are advancing to drive down GHG emissions across the economy. The intern will be expected to work as part of a broader team that includes Alliance staff, consultants, external partners, and member states. This is a paid opportunity and offers an hourly rate of $17 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate degree or bachelor’s degree program; and $20/hour for individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program. This position is remote.

Essential Functions

  •  Tracking and data entry of ongoing climate actions and policies into the Alliance’s Policy Database as needed
  • Providing input into Alliance-wide and sector-specific strategic plans, as well as identifying technical support resources.
  • Working with team members to prepare materials that support major Alliance meetings and workshops.
  • Support the Alliance in IRA implementation by researching trends and challenges in state implementation and communicating it to partners.
  • Support in tracking federal funding opportunities and drafting weekly and quarterly newsletters to states.
  • Additional support tasks as needed.

Selection Criteria for Intern at US Climate Alliance 2024

  •  Applicants can be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. We also welcome applications from recent graduates.
  • Strong research skills, ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in state climate policy and coalition building.
  • Interest in innovative ways to communicate technically complex materials.
  • Be responsible, flexible, collaborative, hard‐working and committed to the mission of the U.S. Climate Alliance.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
