The Spring Exchange Program offered by the College of Cross-Cultural and Multidisciplinary Studies at Kumamoto University provides international students who have an interest in studying abroad in Japan with a chance to experience life as an international student at Kumamoto University.

This program will be conducted in English.

Kumamoto University Exchange Program Scholarship

Participants in the English Course of the Spring Program may apply for a scholarship of 80,000 Japanese Yen. The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and Kumamoto University provide the scholarship. However, scholarships are available only for candidates who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Only students from the following countries are eligible to apply: Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Nepal, Cambodia
  • Students must have a GPA greater than or equal to 2.3
  • However, scholarship recipients may not receive any other scholarships for this program which exceed 80,000 Japanese Yen.

Please note that there are a limited number of scholarships available. Scholarships are available on the basis of the GPA scores of applicants.

Eligibility for the Exchange Program

Candidates are eligible for the Kumamoto University Exchange Program if their profile fits the program’s requirements:

  • Students must be pursuing undergraduate studies at universities with which Kumamoto University has an agreement for academic or student exchange
  • Further, they should have English language proficiency equals to or greater than IELTS Score 5.0
  • However, the students should not have previously participated in any of Kumamoto University’s Summer or Spring Programs
  • Also, the students will require to obtain travel insurance before departing for Japan

Please note a minimum of 20 students is necessary to implement the program. The program can withhold 90 students.

How to apply for the Kumamoto University Exchange Program?

In order to apply for the Student Exchange Program, the candidates must, firstly, indicate their intention to the international office of their university. With the nomination from their university, they can complete and submit the online application. Along with the application, the candidates must also submit their CV, letter of motivation as well as reference letters.

Deadline

Kumamoto University accepts the application for the Exchange Program until Thursday, October 31, 2019. Applications arriving after the deadline are ineligible for the scholarship.
