The University of Amsterdam is offering PhD scholarships to suitable candidates in Embedded System Design for Distributed Deep Learning. As the technology ecosystem is shifting towards the AI paradigm, Deep Learning is becoming instrumental. However, Deep Learning algorithms have proven to be challenging to implement. Hence, the University of Amsterdam provides these scholarships as an ample opportunity for international students to contribute to the area of Deep Learning.

The University of Amsterdam PhD candidate should:

  • perform research on the analysis, modeling, and optimization techniques for designing embedded and distributed DL algorithms;
  • Likewise, complete and defend a PhD thesis within the official appointment duration of four years;
  • collaborate with other PCS and LERC researchers;
  • regularly present intermediate research results at international conferences and workshops, and publish them in proceedings and journals;
  • Also, assist in relevant teaching activities at IvI and LIACS.

What is the value PhD in Deep Learning Scholarship?

The PhD candidates will work on a full-time basis (38 hours per week). Hence, the University of Amsterdam will provide the scholarship stipend amounting to €2,325 in the first year. Further, the scholarship is subjected to rise to an amount of €2,972 in the last year.

What is University of Amsterdam requirements for Deep Learning Scholarships?

To be eligible, the PhD candidate must be related to the fields of Computer Science at the University of Amsterdam. Further, the candidates must meet the university’s requirement as:

  • M.Sc. in computer science or computer engineering;
  • preferably some prior expertise in one or more of the following fields: embedded systems and design, (distributed) computer architectures, modeling and simulation, and AI/deep learning;
  • fluency in oral and written English is required as well as good presentation skills;
  • strong analytical as well as programming skills (C/C++, Java, Python, Shell scripting, etc.);
  • the candidate should be able to work in a research team.

How To Apply for Deep Learning Scholarships at the University of Amsterdam?

To apply for the PhD scholarships at the University of Amsterdam, an applicant must, at first, meet the University’s requirement. Only then, the candidates may apply for the PhD scholarships. The scholarship application is available online. Hence, the candidates must fill up the application form and also submit the following documents:

  • letter of motivation;
  • curriculum vitae (experience recognizable in months);
  • BSc + MSc diploma with transcripts (courses + grades);
  • master’s thesis and other publications (or links referring to);
  • names and contact details of two references;
  • any other relevant material (publications, link to your GitHub repository, …).

Deadline

The University of Amsterdam accepts the scholarships application for PhD in Deep Learning until 30 June 2019. Past the deadline, the university doesn’t entertain any scholarship application.
