To provide enthusiasts, students, and scholars an opportunity to engage with and explore India’s rich cultural heritage, Sahapedia announces the third edition of its Fellowship program in coordination with UNESCO. UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 2003, refers to “the importance of the intangible cultural heritage as a mainspring of cultural diversity and a guarantee of sustainable development.” The Sahapedia–UNESCO Fellowship is part of the efforts to raise awareness – at local, national and international levels. It raises awareness on the importance of intangible heritage, and increase access to communities, groups, and individuals. Additionally, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India supports the Sahapedia–UNESCO Fellowship.

Through this initiative, Fellows will conduct documentation and critical research in diverse areas of cultural knowledge. Also, they will interact with and enhancing networks that contribute to their creation. Sahapedia will publish this research and documentation carried out by the Fellows in its web portal.

What will Sahapedia UNESCO Fellows receive?

The candidates successful to receive the UNESCO Cultural Research Fellowship will receive an amount of INR 44,445 (tax deductible) to conduct the research. Further, the students working in the regional language will receive an amount of INR 10,000 for translation.

Who is eligible for the Sahapedia UNESCO Fellowship 2019?

Sahapedia UNESCO Fellowship is available to post-graduates and above qualified in the disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences in the broadest sense or those with equivalent experience. Further, candidates with prior professional or academic familiarity with the subject under application may receive preference. The Fellowship is available to only those candidates holding an Indian bank account. However, candidates receiving previous Sahapedia UNESCO Fellowship are not eligible to apply.

How to apply for Sahapedia UNESCO Fellowship?

Application for the Cultural Research UNESCO Fellowship is available online. Further, the candidates will require the following documentation to complete their application.

  •  Resume
  • A proposal of approximately 1000 words, along with an abstract of about 250 words.
  • A writing sample (previously written essay) of at least 1500 words (for Research). Or, URL link of a 5–10-minute long video clip indicating the candidates’ skills in filmmaking/videography (for documentation), or both, depending on the selection of deliverables
  • Bibliography/list of existing literature or work on the topic with no more than 15 items/titles.

Deadline

Applicants may submit their application for the Sahapedia UNESCO Cultural Research Fellowship in India before 30 June 2019. Application arriving after the deadline are not eligible for the fellowship consideration.
