Applications for the Scholarships of the Government of the Slovak Republic are officially open. Slovak government scholarships are dedicated to students from selected countries who wish to study for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD Degree programme in Slovakia. Along side Stipends, accommodation and various allowances awarded to successful applicants, Scholarship holders also enjoy discounts provided to students in the Slovak Republic by the relevant sector of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.

Government Scholarships are provided for a specific period of time covering the duration required to complete a Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programme. However, in exceptional cases, the Commission of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic may pass decisions regarding changes of this period.

Selected candidates who will be conducting their studies in Slovak language will have to take a one (1) year Slovak language preparatory course before they can enroll in their degree programme. The programme will offer support during the language course, including a monthly stipend and accommodation.

Benefits from Slovak Government Scholarships

Successful applicants will receive the following benefits

Bachelors and Masters university study:

• Monthly scholarship – 280 €
• One-time stipend upon the commencement of study in the SR  – 35 €
• A One-time stipend upon the completion of study in the SR – 100 €
• Monthly stipend for public university  – 80 €

PhD university study:

• Monthly scholarship  – 330 €
• One-time stipend upon the commencement of study in the  SR  – 35 €
• A One-time stipend upon the completion of study in the SR – 100 €
• Monthly stipend for public university  – 240 €

Language and preparatory studies for all levels of university study:

• Monthly scholarship – 280 €
• One-time stipend upon the commencement of study in the SR – 35 €
• Monthly stipend for public university – 80 €

Overview of fees in the course of study in the SR:

• Dormitory accommodation    –  46 – 77 €/month
• Meals (8.00 €/day)     – 240 €/ month

Upon the commencement of studies, the following expenses must be covered:

• Medical examination: Europe/Africa, Asia  –    183 €/264 €
• Interview related to entrance application procedure   –    20 – 80 €

Towards completion of your studies the costs related to the following aspects will be covered

• Completion of degree work 33 €
• Dissertation 50 €
• Translation and authentication of diploma 33 €

The scholarship also offers an incentive stipend as follows:

• Bonus for grade point average of 1.3   – 50 €/month
• For PhD students for exams passed by the required deadline 170 €/year

Eligibility for Slovak Government Scholarships

To be eligible, applicates will need to fulfill the following criteria:

Scholarships are open to students from one of the target countries.

Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies

• You must have completed and achieved good secondary school grades,
• Applicants must not be more than 26 years of age at the time of application
• Candidates must posses strong grades on the major subjects that are key to the specialty preferred.
• Your high school /Secondary Education must have been completed in the last three (3) years

Post Graduate (Ph.D. degree studies)

• Applicants for the scholarship must be serving in the public sector.
• You must have completed at least two (2) years of continuous public service since your last degree studies.
• Candidates must have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree of at least Upper Second class honors level.
• Ph.D. applicants must have a relevant Master’s Degree,
• You must not have more than 35 years of age at the time of application

Application of Slovak Government Scholarships

Eligible applicants must submit their applications using the online portal. To apply you must follow the following procedure

1. You will have to fill in the application according to the instructions.
2. Submit all the required attachments. The list of attachments needed are as below.

• Diplomas and Transcripts of the highest level of education attained
• Study results from each year of secondary (high) school if applying for bachelor degree.
• Transcript of records from university if applying for master degree or doctoral (PhD.) degree.
• Applicants who have not finished their studies yet can attach results (transcript of records) from the last year until the 31 August.
• Your birth certificate in Slovak, Czech, English, French or Spanish, or a certified translation into one of these languages is required.
• A photograph measuring 3.5 cm x 4 cm showing the person’s full face
• Candidates applying for bachelor degree must attach two recommendations from secondary (high) school teachers
• If you are applying for master degree or PhD you should attach two recommendations from your university teachers.
• Submit a curriculum vitae and signed motivational letter
• A copy of the pages of a passport (travel document) containing the personal details of the holder.
