Believing that education changes lives, the United World Schools (UWS) was formed to improve life opportunities for some of the world’s poorest children living in remote and marginalized communities. UWS, a charity organization, runs its programs in the remote and marginalized communities of Cambodia, Myanmar, and Nepal providing them access to free education. Committed to its work, the United World Schools invites application for 2020 Fellowship program in Nepal.

Through the Fellowship program, UWS aims to provide an opportunity to Nepal’s exceptionally bright and accomplished individuals in providing further insight, tools, and opportunities to serve as full-time teachers to children from poor and marginalized. The fellows will have experience of teaching in classrooms and working with students, parents, and community leaders. It will expose the fellows to the grassroots realities of Nepal’s education system and engage them at a crucial time in their careers and broaden their connections as a leader building a larger movement for systemic change towards educational equity in Nepal.

Further, the fellowship program has aimed to achieve a broader set of objectives to:

  • Enhance the quality of education delivered to the children of rural Nepal through modern teaching methodology
  • Create a meaningful connection between students, teachers, parents, and community leaders understanding each other’s’ problems through mutual cooperation and collaborations
  • Produce leaders who can make a life-long commitment to addressing educational inequity by teaching in poor and marginalized communities for at least two years
  • Build knowledge resource relevant to people of rural and remote communities
  • Improve the learning environment and life skills of rural children
  • Establish a culture of interest-driven Education
  • Work towards removing barriers imposed by the socioeconomic environment on the poor and marginalized children of rural Nepal
  • Participate in the historic journey to improve the education system in rural Nepal

Fully Funded United World Schools Fellowship

The United World School 2020 Nepal Teaching Fellowship is a full-time program. The successful fellows will receive a stipend of NRs. 4,20,000 during the two years of Fellowship. Further, the fellows will receive housing support up to NRs. 96,000. In addition, Fellows will receive two-way travel expenses thrice a year, medical and accidental benefits.

Also, UWS will commit the fellows to become strong classroom and community leaders through an extensive training program and ongoing professional development. Specifically:

  1. Prior to UWS’s school placement, the fellows will undergo a rigorous three to four weeks residential training program that focuses on child-centric classroom practice and leadership. I
  2. Throughout the Fellowship, Fellows will receive training opportunities, participate in leadership workshops and forums on educational leadership, and have exclusive access to professional development resources.
  3. Finally, Fellows will be grouped into learning teams and discuss challenges specific to their grades and/or content areas, share best practices, and work together to build knowledge and skills.

Eligibility for the 2020 United World Schools Fellowship

The United World Schools considers a candidate eligible for its 2020 Fellowship Program on the basis of their profile. Moreover, the fellows should have:

  • Valid Nepali Citizenship
  • Minimum educational qualification of Bachelor’s Degree
  • Willingness to commit 2 years to the Fellowship program
  • Excellent English and Nepali speaking and writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in teamwork

How to Apply for the United World Schools Fellowship?

Application for the 2020 United World Schools Fellowship program constitutes of completing and submitting the online application form. Moreover, a candidate who meets all the above requirements may only apply for the fellowship program.

Deadline

United World Schools will accept the application for the 2020 Nepal Teaching Fellowship until 17 November 2019. However, the candidates must note that the priority deadline is on 17 October 2019.
