University of Alberta Partially Funded Doctoral Scholarship

The University of Alberta will offer the scholarship in increments of $5,000. The department may decide how many increments of $5,000 to offer a student. The letter of offer will indicate the value of the award.

Who is eligible for the Doctoral Scholarship at Alberta?

The Doctoral Scholarship is awarded to eligible students of the University of Alberta who:

  • Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or international students on a study permit
  • Admitted to a doctoral graduate degree program by the department or transferred from a master’s to a doctoral degree program
  • Will register full-time in a doctoral degree program
  • Have an admission GPA of at least 3.5. In case the applicant’s GPA is less than 3.5, the referrer should provide a justification for the referral.
  • Renewable in case the scholars apply again for the next term. However, to be eligible, the scholar should maintain a GPA of 3.5.
  • Also, Departments might have additional selection criteria

How to apply for the Doctoral Scholarship at the University of Alberta?

Each department is assigned an allocation. Individual graduate departments are responsible for selecting nominees based on eligibility criteria and allocations. Further, the Departments may choose to nominate individuals based on a variety of criteria including academic record, letters of appraisal, statement of program, applicant’s research, potential contributions to research, and other technical experience. The awarding process includes:

  • Department nominates students to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR)
  • FGSR verifies eligibility
  • FGSR approves award
  • Finally, FGSR notifies winners directly

Deadline

The University of Alberta has set the deadline for the submission for the application form for the doctoral scholarship as November 1, 2019, for the students who begin the doctoral program in Canada on January 1, 2020.
