Details

The University of Cape Town is looking for fellowship application in the areas of Water Resilience. The interdisciplinary research institute at UCT, Future Water, works on alleviating water scarcity. The fellow will be involved in a DANIDA funded collaborative project between UCT and the University of Copenhagen as well as the Royal Society-funded project between UCT and Coventry University. The overall objective of these projects is to identify opportunities for and generate knowledge on, the physical and institutional integration of decentralized nature-based solutions into the urban and Peri-urban water cycle to support. Further, it will help accelerate a transition towards water resilience in South Africa. Further, the fellow will also participate in Future Water’s research program.

Future Water provides excellent skills development and mentorship opportunities for researchers intending to pursue an academic or research career and encourages postdoctoral fellows to become involved in project initiation and development, and the supervision of postgraduate students. The fellowship is tenable for one year in the first instance. Renewal for a second year is contingent on satisfactory academic progress and funding availability. The

Eligibility

The University of Cape Town provides Water Resilience fellowships to candidates with the background in engineering, hydrology, environmental science or sustainability science. Further, to receive the fellowship, candidates must have:

  • within the past five years, graduated, or shortly expect to graduate, with a PhD in an appropriate discipline
  • However, they may not have held any prior permanent professional or academic posts.
  • They must have a keen interest in team-based, interdisciplinary research. Moreover, the research should centrally focus on the challenges faced in attempts to alleviate water scarcity. Further, they must address those challenges.
  • UTC expects fellows to demonstrate research experience as well as be in the process of generating a publication record.

Deadline

The University of Cape Town accepts the application for Water Resilience Fellowships until May 17, 2019. Applications arriving post deadline are not eligible for the fellowship consideration. The committee formed by the Director of Future Water and academics of the institute will select the eligible candidates for the fellowship.
