UN-Women offers prospective intern an excellent opportunity with its Governance Internship position. Moreover, the UN-Women upholds the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. Further, it works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace, and security.

As the interface with the Member States, the Secretariat strives to ensure effective relationships between UN-Women and its Executive Board. Under the leadership of the President and with advice from the Bureau, the Secretariat assists in all aspects of the work of the Executive Board. This includes the organization of formal sessions every year, informal consultations, briefings, Bureau meetings, and field visits. Moreover, the Secretariat coordinates closely with Board secretariats of UN Funds and other Programmes, such as UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS, UNICEF, and WFP, to ensure harmonization of practices within the UN System.

What will the Governance Intern do?

The Governance Intern will focus on supporting the work of the Executive Board and will include in particular:

  • Support the Executive Board Secretariat team in preparations of Executive Board and Bureau meetings; take notes and prepare summaries of these meetings and assist in preparations of any Executive Board activity;
  • Further, assist in preparations of and servicing of the Executive Board at its formal sessions and informal briefings and consultations;
  • Likewise, carry out research and draft the Executive Board Membership Intelligence;
  • Take notes as well as prepare highlights of other intergovernmental meetings that have impacts on gender equality and empowerment of women and girls, as assigned by the IGSD leadership;
  • Also, perform other duties as required.

What qualifications do you need for the Governance Internship at UN-Women?

UN Women will only respond to the applications in which there is further interest. Hence, to apply for the Governance internship, the candidates must be able to demonstrate unparalleled qualification. These include:

  • The intern must have studied in communications, political sciences, law, economics, finance, public relations, public administration or other similar subjects at the university level.
  • Be in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English; Working knowledge of another UN language a distinct advantage

Along with the application, the selected applicants must provide a resume/CV, two letters of recommendation, proof of health insurance and school enrollment, copy of passport, and copy of the visa (if applicable).
