The African Leadership Academy Summer Engineering Academy (ALA SEA) is for 15-18-year-old high school students from Angola, Egypt, and Nigeria wanting to enter a career in STEM.

Inside the Summer Engineering Academy

ALA SEA intensive program will engage participants in various engineering practices and disciplines. They will compete in teams to create as well as design a solution to an important, relevant engineering design challenge, being led by a talented team of educators, professional engineers, and graduate students in engineering.

Successful applicants will get sponsorship to the ALA campus in South Africa to participate in the SEA program.

Application Process

It is advisable to prepare several components of the application before completing the application.

The application requires:

1. personal and school information
2. a copy of your most current official transcript/academic results
3. In addition, two essays of 300 words or less.

You should  create essays on a separate document to later insert into the essay text boxes.

Note that you can save the application during the completing process but can no longer edit once you submit it.

Essay Topics

The two essay prompts are as follows:

1. Imagine you are provided with unlimited resources to solve a problem or address a challenge in your community.  Thinking like an engineer, what problem would you choose and how would you solve it?
2. Explain why you are interested in pursuing a career in STEM?
