Yale Environment 360 Film Contest 2025 ($3,000 prize)

Applications are open for the Yale Environment 360 Film Contest 2025. Now in its 12th year, the Yale Environment 360 Film Contest is accepting entries from filmmakers around the world who are using the power of short film to spotlight critical environmental issues. The contest recognizes the year’s best environmental short films, with a focus on originality, visual storytelling, and compelling perspectives on pressing ecological challenges.

The Environment 360 Film Contest provides a global platform for filmmakers to amplify environmental awareness and action. Entries must explore a significant environmental topic, whether through documentary storytelling, investigative reporting, or creative narrative formats.

The contest will be judged by a distinguished panel featuring Roger Cohn, editor-in-chief of Yale Environment 360, renowned for his leadership in environmental journalism; Elizabeth Kolbert, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and contributing writer to e360, widely acclaimed for her work on climate change and environmental issues; and Thomas Lennon, an Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker known for his compelling storytelling and thought-provoking films. Together, these esteemed judges bring a wealth of experience and insight to the evaluation process, ensuring a high standard of excellence in the contest.

Prizes of Yale Environment

• The first-place winner will receive $3,000
• The second-place winner $2,000
• The third-place winner $1,000.
• The winning entries will be posted on Yale Environment 360.

Eligibility for Yale Environment

• Open to filmmakers worldwide.
• Submissions should focus on an environmental issue and be a maximum of 20 minutes in length.
• Films that are funded by an organization or company and are primarily about that organization or company are not eligible.
