Friedrich Ebert International Scholarships provides an opportunity to particularly gifted students from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Students in any subject area are eligible to apply if they demonstrate excellent school or academic merit. Further, the scholarships are awarded to highly-performing students and include a comprehensive seminar program to help enhance the candidates’ social competencies and academic skills.

Moreover, Individual support by an on-site liaison lecturer is another benefit of the sponsorship. The candidates’ aptitudes and personalities should show excellent promise for an academic or professional career. Further, candidates should show commitment to the values of social democracy.

What is the value of Friedrich Ebert International Scholarships?

International students receive a monthly base amount of EUR 750 in a Bachelor’s, Diplom, Magister or state examination program or EUR 850 in a Master’s course. In addition, costs for health insurance are funded and scholars with a child receive a family allowance of EUR 276. The scholarship does not have to be repaid.

Who is eligible to apply for Friedrich Ebert Scholarships?

Candidates are eligible for the scholarships if they meet the following criteria:

  • outstanding school or academic merit (where required: first graded proofs of academic achievement)
  • social and political involvement and commitment to the values of social democracy
  • responsible, motivated, reliable individuals willing to involve with the Foundation’s network
  • sufficient knowledge of German, although the courses are held in English. This means at least DSH level 2, a ‘Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache’ of at least level 4 or a ‘Zertifikat C 1’ by a Goethe Institute

How to Apply for Friedrich Ebert International Scholarships?

Friedrich Ebert International Scholarships are among DAAD Scholarships scheme. To apply for the scholarships, one must follow similar application guidelines as DAAD Scholarships. Further, only eligible candidates may apply for the scholarships.

Here is the application process for international students to apply for Friedrich Ebert Scholarships:

  • Fill out the online application form. Before submitting answer a few questions about your professional and family background.
  • Furthermore, if you are eligible for a scholarship, you must send further documents by e-mail. The documents should include two expert reports from university teachers as well as information about your previous education and your socio-political commitment.
  • After that, all the applications undergo shortlisting. If selected, you will require to come in for the interview in person. You will sit in two interviews: with a Liaison Lecturer from your department and with a member of our Selection Committee.
  • The selection committee makes the final decision on inclusion in one of the programs. The committee meets several times a year.

Deadline

International students may apply for the Friedrich Ebert Scholarships until the deadline set as 31 October 2019. Past the deadline, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation will not receive any scholarship application.
